CHAPTER 5

Dean chuckled to himself as he watched Anne lean her head back against the seat and close her eyes as his grandmother’s friends continued to debate the excitement of seeing a shark during their stop at the beach.

Frankly, Dean didn’t care one way or another. The only thing that occupied in his mind was wondering how Anne’s beautiful neck would taste, and if she’d moan or whimper with ecstasy when he trailed kisses from her neck down to her sensual breasts and even lower. He got a hard-on simply from daydreaming about her. He normally had much more finesse when it came to women but Anne was a firecracker. He couldn’t explain it but he was compelled to tease her and give her a bad time. She was adorable when she narrowed those beautiful green eyes at him and nibbled on her lower lip in what he knew was an attempt to keep her comments to herself.

The day had been fun. His grandmother and her friends were having a grand time and he was glad he’d taken time off from his architecture business to join her. Since his grandfather’s death a year ago, he’d been worried about her, but she was surrounded by her friends and seemed to be doing better. His grandmother had been on to him about working too hard lately and not taking time to enjoy life. Perhaps she pushed because the death of his grandfather, an architect of some renown in the Chicago and Madison, Wisconsin area who never took much time off in his entire life. In fact, it was Dean who’d talked his grandfather into finally retiring, and even then he would still show up at the firm, looking things over and offering suggestions on design. Grandpa was the reason Dean had gotten into design. He’d enjoyed those visits and now missed them deeply.

Dean understood living in the moment and all work and no play yada, yada, yada. But that wasn’t always practical so he had to make an effort to clear his calendar whenever his grandma asked him to. So here he was on the West Coast, tormented and so turned on he was practically in pain with his need for a short, sassy little tour guide with a mouth and body meant for sin. God, he knew sex with her would be…well, there were no words to describe how he knew it would be between them.

Instead of turning on all his charm and sophistication, he acted like a brat and he knew it. The thing was, although he should feel ashamed, all he really felt was alive. Anne didn’t back down, her comebacks were in her glares and her witty remarks when she allowed them to slip past those beautiful lips.

For the first time in a long while, Dean was actually interested in getting to know a woman beyond the formalities of her name and whether she’s involved with anyone. He actually wanted to take her out to dinner and have a long conversation about things beyond the weather and state of the economy.
